December 5, 2004: Nationality
Rooms Holiday Open House. For the second
year in a row, the Latin American & Caribbean
Heritage Room had its own booth at the Nationality
Rooms Holiday Open House. Heritage Room committee
member, Salomé Gutiérrez, offered
a wide array of Peruvian merchandise for sale.
Many thanks to all our friends who stopped by
to visit. For the first time ever, the Latin
American & Caribbean Heritage Room was also
represented in the dance performances that take
place throughout the day at this event. Many
thanks to the Latin American Cultural Union
for providing the dancers and performing the
beautiful native dances from Latin America &
the Caribbean.

September
25, 2004: Brazilian Concert featuring Silvia
Lazo & Paul Grove. Benefit for the Latin American
& Caribbean Heritage Room. The Heritage
Room Committee had the great honor of sponsoring
nationally acclaimed musicians, Silvia Lazo &
Paul Grove! This talented duo performed a concert
of sultry Brazilian music, which was a special
treat for the Pittsburgh audience. Paul's dexterity
with the guitar and Silvia's crystal-clear soprano
voice resonated in Bellefield Auditorium. Many
thanks to Silvia & Paul for traveling so far

18, 2004: The 25 Annual Latin American &
Caribbean Festival at the University of Pittsburgh.
The Latin American & Caribbean Heritage Room
Committee had its very own table at this year's
festival! We sold raffle tickets for a gorgeous
Huichol Mask, which was generously donated
by Mexico
Lindo. The
mask will be raffled off at the Brazilian Concert
on Sept. 25, 2004. Proceeds from the raffle will
benefit the future Latin American & Caribbean
Heritage Room. |

5, 2004: Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser at Reed
Smith Law Offices, Pgh., PA. Many Thanks
to all our friends, who made this year's Cinco
de Mayo Benefit a great success! Many thanks to:
The Hispanic Bar Association of Southwestern
Pennsylvania, The Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and The Latin American
Cultural Union for helping to make the fundraiser
a great success! Thanks also to Reed Smith Law
Offices for hosting and promoting the event, and
to the many talented dancers who performed native
Latin dances. |

24, 2004: 38 th Annual International
Cabaret Ball, University of Pittsburgh.
Many Thanks to all who attended the International
Cabaret Ball, at the William Pitt Student Union
on Pitt Campus. This year, we were extremely honored
that the event highlighted Latin American &
Caribbean Heritage! Latin American Dancers performed
native dances from many countries! PA State Representative,
John A. Maher, informed the audience in a surprise
announcement that the Latin American & Caribbean
Heritage Room project had received a $15,000 grant!
We are very grateful for this generous gift, which
brings us one step closer to making the Heritage
Room a reality! View

9, 2003: Heritage Room Benefit at Rosebud
Cafe. Many thanks to all our friends
who attended the fundraiser at Rosebud on Tuesday,
December 9, 2003. Many thanks also to Musuhallpa
for providing beautiful music, The Latin American
Cultural Union, for providing beautiful dances,
& D. J. Marlon Silva for providing the hot
Latin dance music!

7, 2003: Nationality Rooms Holiday Open
House. Many thanks to all our friends
who attended the Nationality Rooms Holiday Open
House on Sunday, December 7, 2003. Dancers performed
native dances from around the world, and the Nationality
Rooms were decorated for the holiday season, reflecting
each country's unique customs. The International
Marketplace presented visitors with an opportunity
to purchase ethnic food, and articles of clothing,
jewelry, etc. from many cultures. Our own committee's
Salomé Carhuaslla Gutiérrez was
a wonderful new addition to this year's event,
offering beautiful Peruvian merchandise. Salomé
donated a percentage of her sales to the Latin
American & Caribbean Heritage Room project.

6, 2003: A Message from Our Chairperson,
Cathy Bazán-Arias. THANK YOU for
a great time and a wonderful Cinco de Mayo fundraiser!
The Latin American and Caribbean Heritage Room
received over $1,000 towards its completion! And
over 200 people celebrated the evening and danced
until the wee-hours at Cozumel with Banda Azúcar,
the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Salseros Linda
and Mark, and volunteers from the Latin American
and Caribbean Heritage Room and the LACU. As the
saying goes, ¡Sí se puede!

was held on May 5, 2003, at Cozumel Restaurant
to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! Many thanks to all
our friends who came out to support the Heritage
Room, and helped to make this event a huge success! |

13, 2001: The Very 1st Fundraiser
for the Latin American & Caribbean Heritage
Room Project! Mallorca Restaurant. The
first fundraiser for the Heritage Room was held
at Mallorca Restaurant. The Grand Kick-Off Dinner
included a Silent Auction. We thank all who were
present at our humble beginnings. Without community
support, we wouldn't have evolved into a full
fledged committee, with the dream of creating
a brand new Heritage Room! |
